EDCOM 2 and IDinsight team up for PH nutrition research

The Philippine Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) has enlisted IDinsight to provide evidence-based recommendations on optimizing the cost-effective allocation of national government resources for nutrition.

EDCOM 2 is currently immersed in nationwide consultations for the 2024 budget allocations concerning national nutrition programs for children aged 0 to 6th grade. These programs encompass a range of interventions, from advocating breastfeeding to implementing micronutrient supplementation and school feeding.

Following these consultations, with the support of IDinsight, EDCOM 2 will present recommendations for the 2024 resource allocations to Congress through its members in the Senate and House of Representatives. Concurrently, EDCOM 2 is formulating legislation to provide comprehensive guidance on budget allocations and initiatives focused on early childhood nutrition. This partnership not only informs the 2024 budget but also establishes a foundation for an evidence-based approach to future nutrition budgets.

IDinsight is a global organization that specializes in providing data and evidence to different stakeholders in the development sector to help them make more informed decisions. IDinsight’s collaboration with EDCOM 2 is facilitated by the IDinsight Catalytic Fund to ensure that the project team offers timely and rigorous support to the commission within the constrained timeline of this year’s budgeting process.
